The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) has moved to hold a Gender and Inclusion Summit 2024 (GS-24).
The Summit is poised to highlight possible ways Nigeria can address the spate of poverty in Nigeria.
The summit scheduled for September 4-5, 2024, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, is themed “Reimagining Gender Inclusive Pathways and Partnerships for Poverty Reduction.”
A statement signed by the Strategic Communications Advisor, PIC, Olise Onwuka, on Tuesday, September 2, noted that the summit will bring together global and national policymakers, business leaders, development partners, civil society leaders, and scholars to explore innovative approaches to tackling poverty through the lens of gender and social inclusion.
The statement reads: “The summit aims to address the pressing issue of poverty in Nigeria, where approximately 63% of the population lives in multidimensional poverty, with women, youth, and marginalized groups being disproportionately affected.
“The event will focus on gender-inclusive strategies for poverty reduction, emphasizing innovative approaches to addressing deprivation in key areas such as health, education, and living standards.
“GS-24 will feature a comprehensive two-day hybrid program, including plenary sessions, panel discussions, breakout sessions, oral and poster presentations, skills-building workshops, and exhibitions.
“The PIC is collaborating with donors and gender-focused organizations to host specialized sessions throughout the event.”
Also, high-profile dignitaries, including past and current Federal Ministers, High Commissioners, and leaders from the development and private sectors, are expected to attend.
Some of the dignitaries to grace the summit include: Gideon Olanrewaju – CEO, Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi); Chioma Agwuegbo; CEO, Tech Her; Ms. Nabila Aguele, CEO, Malala Fund Nigeria;
Dr. Modupe Adefeso-Olatunji – Managing Director, The Education Partnership Centre (TEP Centre).
Others are: Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Ms. Abigail Waya; Head of Service, Nasarawa State Government, Mrs. Ruth Agbo; National President, Association for Women in Trade and Agriculture, Dr. Muntaqa Umar-Sadiq; National Coordinator, Nigeria Health Renewal Investment Initiative, Dr. Muyi Aina – Executive Director, NPHCDA, among others.
