The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness.

In a statement released by the National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, the Daura Emirate, the people and government of Katsina State, the Federal Government, and Nigerians across the country.

He said: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, associates, and indeed, all Nigerians who are mourning the loss of a man who played a significant role in Nigeria’s history both as a military leader and a democratically elected president.

“The CNG extends condolences to the Daura Emirate, people and Government of Katsina, the Federal Government and Nigerians at large.”

President Buhari served the nation at various times in our journey as a people, first as Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later as civilian President from 2015 to 2023. His contributions, sacrifices, and leadership will forever be a part of Nigeria’s national narrative.

The CNG urges leaders at all levels of government to take this moment to reflect on the ephemerality of life and power.

Charanchi added, “We call on those in positions of authority to renew their commitment to delivering justice, security, development, and good governance to the people.

“Let this moment serve as a solemn reminder that leadership is a sacred trust, and that true legacies are not built on titles or tenure, but on tangible impact and service to humanity.”

Offering prayers for the late president, the CNG said: “May the soul of Muhammadu Buhari rest in peace, and may Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. May his family have the strength to bear the painful loss.”
