The Director of Abuja Social of Political thought, Dr Sam Amadi has called for institutional control and management of challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) .
He made this call during his presentation lecture at the 2025 Nduka Obaigbena National Secondary School Essay Competition held in Abuja.
Hr emphasized the need for governance and management of both human and artificial intelligence to optimize their benefits and minimize their downsides.

He discussed historical examples of human intelligence leading to disastrous outcomes, such as wars and genocides.
Prof Amadi highlighted the role of the Nigerian government and society in preserving creativity and control in AI.
He stressed the need for a more robust discussion on freedom of information and the press.
According to him , AI is presented as an enabler for journalists, helping with fact-checking and cross-verification in real-time.
He noted the potential for AI to enhance journalism by providing more reliable facts and analysis.
Prof Amadi warned about the potential loss of nuanced writing and originality in journalism due to AI.
The Executive Director of CASER , Barrister Frank Tietie , explained that the essay competition was initiated in their alma mater at Government College Ughelli, to inspire young people to research and understand the impact of influential figures in journalism.
He explained that the essay competition, funded entirely by CASER , was aimed to encourage constructive social media use and the importance of human intelligence in journalism, especially in the face of artificial intelligence.
Bar Tietie mentioned the significance of July 14, as PrinceNduka Obaigbena birthday anniversary, as a time to celebrate his numerous contributions to broadcasting .
He emphasizesd the need to continue celebrating human intelligence and the contributions of individuals like Prince Obaigbena .
He reiterated that competition aims to inspire future generations to pursue careers in journalism and broadcasting, ensuring the continuation of human intelligence in these fields.
Announcing the winners of the competition, Prof Biodun Adeniyi , Professor of Communications, Baze University, explained that twelve outstanding essays made the final shortlist in the keenly contested maiden competition.
He added that the evaluation was carried out with a commitment to academic integrity, creativity, and excellence.
He stated that third place was Egarievwe Unique Efetobor with 67% , while second place was Princewill Ogenhevwegba Kaiser with 68% and First place was Ray Iserioghene Mukoro with 70%.
