NOTAP donates N30m equipment to BUK for protection of Intellectual Property

The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has donated Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) to Bayero University Kano (BUK).
Speaking during the commissioning of the office, held at the new campus of BUK yesterday, Director General of NOTAP, Dr Dan’azumi Ibrahim said the equipment installed in the office are worth N30
million.
According to him, since 2006, NOTAP had observed low awareness of intellectual property protection against external encroachment at Nigerian universities, noting that there is no way research could be successful without protecting the institution that conducts it.
The DG, represented by Director Services in the agency, Dr Adamu Tandama explained that the equipment were to empower the university in the conduct of its research, expressing optimism that BUK would achieve its dream of being the best research institution in Africa.
“The equipment we have provided include computers, internet facility and all other information technology equipment. They will also be used to enhance communication between the researchers and our headquarters in Abuja.
“I am optimistic that the intellectual property awareness will now be increased in this university. This could enable the institution achieve its dream of becoming the best research institution in Africa, “ he said
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Yahuza Bello expressed happiness for receiving the equipment, which according to him, would protect the university’s research and inventory works.
According to Bello, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Haruna Wakili, said the donation is timely as the university is aspiring to become a leading research institution in Africa.
