A 65 year old retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali and her 20 year old housemaid, Miss Mercy Mwuese have been reportedly, gruesomely murdered in their residence located along Makurdi-Naka (around Bush Bar), Benue State.
The incident happened on Sunday at about 4:30 pm.
Eye witness account said the duo were killed by one Jimilu Jibril also known as ‘Eko’, a neighbour of the deceased and a member of the Red Axe confraternity.
According to the witness, trouble started when Mercy, the housemaid was said to have been impregnated by a rival cultist (The Black axe) whom “Eko” always accused of killing one of their member who also visited Mercy.
After several abuses and threats by Eko, Mercy could no longer bear it and insulted the suspect who reported the matter to her mistress, Mrs Amali who promptly settled the matter and thought it was over until she saw him on that fateful day.
Peoples’ Daily learnt that the housemaid was outside washing clothes of her baby who is barely three (3) months when the suspect scaled over the fence and entered the premises. Assuming that she might be alone, he attacked, stabbed her and she died on the spot.
It was while the suspect was stabbing her that she screamed for help attracted Mrs. Amali who rushed out, saw the suspect whom she recognised and Jubril immediately attacked and stabbed her severally at the abdomen. All her efforts to attract neighbours failed with no one coming to her rescue.
Investigation by Peoples’ Daily further revealed that Mrs. Amali struggled to escape to her neighbour’s house but it was locked and nobody responded to her distress call.
“She was later found in the pool of her blood by one of her boy, Orya Dekaa who raised alarm which attracted few people as she was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi.
While in the hospital, eye witnesses said she kept shouting “ Eko killed Mercy and stabbed me too”.
The suspect who lives with his parents few blocks away from the residence of the victims is said to be now at large.
The matter has already been reported at the “D” Division Police station by the family members and the community while the bodies of the deceaseds were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.
All efforts to get the confirmation of the Police Public Relations’ Officer, PPRO SP Catherine Anene failed as she said, “am yet to be briefed about the incident”.
