The communication team of Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Ms Anthonet Izuegbu, popularly known as Ann, saying it was over alleged criminal defamation against the lawmaker and others.

In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday, the team said it was necessary to set the record straight amid what it described as misleading narratives circulating on social media.

It said Izuegbu was arrested in connection with criminally defamatory statements she allegedly made, accusing the senator of physically assaulting his wife, Mrs Laila Nwoko, and causing a miscarriage.

The team dismissed the claims as false, insisting that no such incident occurred and that no miscarriage resulted from any alleged violence.

According to the statement, the allegations were made without evidence and formed part of what it called a coordinated attempt to revive previously unsubstantiated domestic violence claims against the lawmaker.

The team further alleged that Izuegbu was implicated in the procurement of an illegal abortion for the senator’s estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, during her lawful marriage to Nwoko.

It said the incident allegedly occurred after the marriage, adding that attempts to adjust the timeline did not alter the legality of the act, which it claimed was already on record and had been publicly referenced.

The statement said a formal witness account dated October 29, 2025, submitted to the Area Commander of the Maitama Police Station, detailed repeated activities allegedly involving Izuegbu and others.

It alleged that Izuegbu routinely sourced, handled and administered controlled and illegal substances to Daniels and associated individuals.

The team added that Izuegbu’s arrest followed a social media post in which she allegedly issued threats, made derogatory remarks and repeated defamatory accusations against Mrs Nwoko and the senator.

It stressed that the matter was a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies and due process, warning that attempts to portray the arrest as suppression or victimisation were misleading.
