North-West University, Sokoto (NWUS) has warned prospective students, parents and guardians against a fraudulent notice circulating online, claiming that the university has released its 2026/2027 first and second batch admission lists.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Directorate of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026.

The university said the fake notice provides a telephone number, 07073682223, and identifies an individual as “Dr Mrs Mary”, allegedly asking applicants to check their admission status, process clearance, pay school fees and secure admission in subsequent batches.

NWUS described the notice as fraudulent and stressed that it did not originate from the university.

The institution said it does not authorise individuals to use personal telephone numbers to offer admission, process clearance, collect school fees or guarantee admission into its programmes.

It urged prospective students to ignore the telephone number and instructions in the fake notice and avoid sending money or disclosing personal or admission-related information through unauthorised channels.

The university also cautioned applicants against anyone claiming to be able to secure admission, process clearance or guarantee placement in exchange for payment.

NWUS said all admission-related information, including admission lists, procedures, school fees and other official updates, would be communicated through its authorised channels.

Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children and wards about the scam and verify admission information directly with the university before making any payment or taking further action.

The university provided 0704-269-9999 as its official telephone line for verifying admission-related information.

NWUS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process and urged the public to rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
