Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Youssouf, to discuss developments across the continent.
The meeting also focused on peace, dialogue and stability in Africa, according to a statement by the African Union.
Youssouf commended Obasanjo for his continued involvement in continental affairs.
He also acknowledged the former Nigerian President’s efforts towards promoting peace and stability across Africa.
“The Chairperson commended President Obasanjo’s continued engagement in support of peace, dialogue and stability across the continent,” the statement said.
Obasanjo currently serves as an African Union High Representative.
He was first appointed to the position in August 2021 and was later reappointed to continue his peace-building and mediation efforts across the continent.
The meeting comes amid continuing security and political challenges in several parts of Africa, with the AU pushing dialogue and diplomatic interventions to address conflicts.
Both officials are expected to continue supporting continental efforts aimed at strengthening peace, stability and dialogue among African countries.
