Media Trust Group has appointed veteran journalist, Malam Adamu Lawal Toro, as its Editor-at-Large for Political Journalism, International Perspective and Newsroom Strategy.
The appointment was contained in a letter addressed to Toro by the management of Daily Trust.
The Group said Toro’s extensive experience in journalism, international reporting and media management positioned him to provide strategic guidance across its editorial operations.
Under the appointment, Toro is expected to strengthen the quality and depth of the Group’s political and election coverage.
He will produce four analytical columns, two international comparison pieces and two explanatory articles every month.
The new Editor-at-Large will also analyse comparative elections, diplomacy, international influence and foreign policy implications.
He is expected to develop strategies for candidate interviews and debate guidelines, as well as review crisis reporting protocols.
The appointment also assigns him weekly mentoring sessions with political correspondents, editors, television presenters and radio hosts.
Toro will regularly appear on Trust TV and Trust Radio during major political developments, election debates and Election Day coverage.
He will also provide strategic advice to management on editorial positioning, coverage priorities, international best practices and political ethics.
According to the appointment letter, Toro will work closely with the Group Editorial Director and other editorial leaders in planning and delivering the assignments.
The appointment places particular emphasis on strengthening political journalism through deeper analysis, international comparisons and newsroom mentorship.
