Over 1,000 bandits were said to have invaded Niger community, killing two people.
This is coming seven days after the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago granted an exclusive interview on a national television, confirming that the state was safe for investors.
A community source told our reporter that the bandits who were in their numbers on motorcycles, numbering over one thousand took over communities in Akere axis of Zungeru, Wushishi local government area of Niger state, killing two people including a vigilante.
He said the well armed bandits estimated at two thousand stormed the community around ten o’clock on Thursday morning, and blocked Minna/Kontagora highway at Kundu, their usual route.
“It was reliably gathered that the bandits shot three people killing one civilian and a vigilante.”
Sources added that, while the other civilian was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, a number of casualties could not be immediately ascertained, as many were said to have rushed in to the bush to scamper for safety.
A community leader who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told our reporter that, “this is the first time in history that I have seen such influx of bandits, with sophisticated weapons trooping in to the area.”“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly resolved to bring the lingering banditry and other security challenges to an end at all costs.
“I therefore, direct you to ensure all the bandits’ leaders and their gangs are finished, you should not wait for further order rather than to reach out to bandits enclaves and fiercely clamp down on them.
“As from now that I am talking to you, the President is expecting to only hear end of all bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers across the Northwest zone.
“All that you need in terms fighting equipments and welfare to face the bandits have been provided, henceforth
