From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has vowed not to participate in the forthcoming local government council election scheduled for 26 May, 2018 by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) as, according to the party leadership, “We have discovered plan by the ruling party APC in the state to rig the election.”
Briefing journalists at the party office, Jos Road Lafia, the state capital, shortly after the stakeholders meeting of the Party, the state chairman of the PDP Honourable Francis Orogo opined that the party is fully aware of the plan by APC in the state to rig the election viewed from the appointment of the (NASIEC) Nasarawa State Independent electoral Commission chairman and other officials.
According to him “The NASIEC chairman is a card carrier member of APC. Some of the members were either LGC chairmen, commissioners and special advisers in the APC led administration in the state”.
He continued: “We have discovered that the state government is not ready to conduct any genuine election. They only want to appoint their interim management committee chairman (IMC) as chairmen.
“We want to disassociate ourselves, as a political party with focus, from the exercise. We don’t want crisis, because we have discovered their selfish arrangements,” he maintained.
Francis further maintained that even if PDP participated in the exercise, he is sure members of the party, will be denied even if they win the election. He, therefore, called on its members not to participate, as well as urged them to avert any plan by the APC in the state to conduct the LGC election.
“We cannot participate in the election, except the right thing is done.
This is a plan to defraud the people politically and economically,” he added.
Those in attendance at the meeting were serving PDP Senators from the state, past commissioners, Deputy governors, special advisers and PDP local government council party chairmen in the state.
