Philanthropist sponsors Independence Day Chess tournament in Abuja

In a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day, Halimat Tejuosho, founder of the QAT Foundation, has sponsored an engaging chess tournament for the Karu Chess Players Club in Abuja, with cash and various gifts.
This event not only marked the significance of the nation’s independence but also aimed to promote chess as a crucial tool for intellectual development within the community.
The tournament held yesterday attracted chess enthusiasts from various age groups, showcasing their skills and passion for the game.
Participants engaged in intense matches, displaying strategic thinking and sportsmanship while fostering camaraderie among players, describing the competition as interesting, and urged that it be sustained.
Speaking at the event, Tejuosho emphasized that such events help to build a sense of community and encourage collaboration among young minds.
She added that the gesture is part of her broader initiative to commemorate this year’s independence, stressing that sport helps to build unity and togetherness amongst members of the society regardless of their differences.
