Police nab suspected armed robber in Bauchi

Police in Bauchi have arrested a member of a five-man robbery gang at the GRA area in Bauchi metropolis and recovered arm and ammunition, while the Muslim faithful were celebrating this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

A statement, issued and signed by the Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, made available to newsmen in Bauchi at the weekend ,said the arrest followed a distress call that the robbers, who were brandishing AK-47 rifles and shooting sporadically, stormed a store, Dudu Store, located on Sunday Awoniyi street, in GRA, Bauchi, at about 7p.m., on Saturday.

DSP Mohammed added that one Ahmed Musa, from Darmana, Gombe state, was arrested after a fierce exchanged of gunfire between the Police and the gang members, while other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.

According to the Police spokesman, exhibits recovered from the gang included one AK-47 rifle, 10 live ammunitions of 7.62mm, two Bajaj motorcycles and one magazine.

He added that the entire surrounding had been cordoned-off, in order to track down the fleeing suspects, saying that investigation was in progress.
