From Ahmed Idris, Birnin Kebbi
A clergyman, Bishop Desmond E. Akanya, in Kebbi state has called on politicians in the country to be mindful of their utterances so that they do not heat up the polity even as they contend with their opponents.
He said Nigerians, especially the politicians and people who believe in the development of the geographical entity called Nigeria, should rise up to the challenges bedeviling the country and its corporate existence.
This entails shunning all negative things and embracing positive attitude like uniting the people so as to curb insurgency and other problems militating against the people.
He gave the indication in a speech delivered at the occasion marking the anniversary of the Six synod of the Anglican Diocese of Kebbi, in Birnin-Kebbi last weekend.
Bishop Akanya, who berated the high level of destruction meted out to Nigerians by the insurgents, said the country belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion, noting that if the breaking-up of the country as predicted by the outside world is to be avoided, politicians should guard against their utterances and watch what they tell their supporters about their opponents.
The clergyman also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to respect the wish of Nigerians by implementing what is contained in the submission by the National Confab, stressing that, it is a collective wish of Nigerians.
He paid glowing tribute to the Governor of Kebbi State, and traditional rulers for their efforts in uniting the people, and called on other governors and traditional rulers in other states to emulate them so as to move the country forward..
