Youths and women in their numbers in the early hours of Thursday blocked Minna-Bida Road at Kpakungu round
about in a peaceful protest over the current hardship as a result of fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.
It was reliably gathered that the protesters lamented over the continuous hike in the prize of food items and other essential needs of livelihood in the country.
It was further revealed that the protesters consisted of women, youths of both gender and few senior citizens who were involved in the protest to send a message to the government of the day on the hardship they are going through.
Some of the protesters who spoke with newsmen demanded for the reversal of the current fuel price they claimed was the major cause of the hardship currently experienced in Nigeria.
The protest started few minutes after seven o’clock in the morning. However, efforts to get the response of the security agencies on the development was not successful at the time of filing in the report, just as police officers stationed at the roundabout had disappeared to allow the protesters press home their demand without interference.
Meanwhile, Niiger State Government had called on the people of Kpagungu to remain calm as the state government was working tirelessly to cushion its citizen hardships to it barest minimum.
This was made known by the State Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba shortly after addressing the protesters at the Kpagungu round-about Minna, said the state government will continue to distribute palliative to the down trodden.
The Deputy Governor explained that the State Government is very much aware of the economic hardship faced by its citizens, and advised them to remain calm as modalities have been put in place to ease their suffering.
