A terrible rainstorm in the late hours at the weekend has left one hospitalised and a gigantic sign post mounted atop the Summit-Illah Road by the premises of the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) blown down in Asaba, the state capital of Delta State.
An eye witness, Mr. Azuka Obuseh, Chairman, Smart Delicacy, whose eatery was close by, said that the storm pulled down the massive sign post, hitting the man who was hurrying away from his eatery as a result of the threatening rain.
He added that the horrific sound of the fallen signpost and the painful cry for help from the trapped man drew attention to the people around, who hurriedly rescued and rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre in the capital city.
He said there was no sign that the sign post was not firmly fixed, wondering what could have happened, had the signpost fallen directly on the road when vehicular traffic was heavy.
Mr. Obuseh called on the concerned authorities to ensure that such outdoor signpost across roads in the state capital were firmly fixed from falling away easily, adding that the second signpost on same road, giving directions towards the Summit Junction, by the Benin-Asaba Expressway, was also infirm and posed danger for users of the road.
