Ramadan: Yuguda earmarks N98.5m for women in Bauchi

Governor Isa Yuguda, of Bauchi state, has earmarked the sum of N98.5 million to cater for women and children across the state, as a palliative measure to provide succor to the people.

This was disclosed to newsmen by the Hon. Commissioner for Women affairs and child development Hajiya Talatu Mohammed Barwa, saying the administration has been committed to promoting religious activities.

Barwa added that the gesture was extended through the office of the first lady, Hajiya Aisha Isa Yuguda, as part of her efforts to carry women along, following their support for the Yuguda administration.

According to the commissioner, in spite of the economic difficulties, government has already released 50 percent of the money, about N49 million to the office of the first lady, which has since commenced dispensing it.

Barwa stressed that about 238 Tafsir centres, in all, will benefit from the largess, after careful identification by the ministry, explaining further that about 200 centres have been selected within Bauchi metropolis while 38 were from various local government areas of the state.

Items to be distributed during the exercise includes 1,600 bags of rice, 1,200 bags of sugar, 750 bags of millet, 750 cartons of Milo and 500 packets of Bournvita.

Others are 600 cartons of powdered milk, 400 cartons of Lipton tea as well as several assorted clothing materials among others.

Barwa, while regretting the late commencement of the distribution exercise, appealed to the entire Muslim women in the state to bear with the government even as she attributed the delay to the current global economic predicament.
