The Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal challenges and what he described as the hijacking of the party by undemocratic forces.
Isa announced his resignation in a letter dated April 14, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Kindiyo Ward in Cham, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The lawmaker said his decision takes immediate effect, noting that it followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including his family, political associates, and supporters.
According to him, his exit was prompted by concerns over the direction of the party, alleging that its structure has been taken over in a manner inconsistent with its founding ideals, resulting in factional leadership.
He added that after careful consideration, he concluded that his political future and that of his constituents would be better served outside the PDP.
Isa, who represents the Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, said his constituents deserve a political platform that aligns with their interests and long-term aspirations.
He, however, expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him the platform to serve in the National Assembly, stating that he remains grateful for the opportunity.
His resignation adds to a growing list of defections and internal tensions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
