The House of Representatives has ordered the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Osita Chidoka, to henceforth enforce a one-lane traffic formation on the Niger Bridge.
The resolution was reached at the plenary following the adoption of a motion by Rep Cyril Egwuatu (APGA, Anambra), the House noted that if this measure should be maintained pending the completion of the Second Niger Bridge, which is currently under construction, it will eased traffic congestion.
The House also ordered FRSC to station a towing truck on the approach to the bridge to facilitate prompt removal of any vehicle that breaks down on the bridge.
The lawmaker noted that “vehicles heavily loaded with goods sometimes breakdown on the bridge and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic, thereby causing other drivers to begin to manoeuvre around broken down vehicles.”
Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, who presided over yesterday’s plenary referred the motion to the committee on road safety for further legislative inputs.
