Resist price hike amidst NNPC’s fuel abundance promises – CSO scribe urges marketers

The Civil Society Co-chair, Open Governance Partnership (OGP), Kaduna State, Mubarak Abdulganiyi has pleaded with the Independent oil marketers to show solidarity and resilience in the face of the current fuel scarcity and potential price hikes.
Abdulganiyi, in a statement made available to the media in Kaduna yesterday, said recently the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) assured citizens of an abundance of fuel supply across the federation.
This assurance, according to him should alleviate any concerns regarding scarcity and resultant price increases.
He said: “However, we observe a surge in prices at some fuel stations, which is deeply concerning.
“We must remind ourselves of the importance of holding authorities accountable for their commitments. NNPC’s pledge of abundant fuel supply is not just a promise but a commitment to ensure the smooth functioning of our daily lives.
“As responsible citizens, we must demand transparency and accountability in the distribution of fuel.
“I urge all motorists in Kaduna to resist any attempts to exploit the current situation by hiking fuel prices. Let us stand together and demand adherence to the promises made by NNPC. We must not allow profiteering at the expense of the people.
“Furthermore, let us utilize our collective voice to call for greater transparency in the fuel distribution system. The OGP is committed to fostering open governance and accountability, and we will continue to advocate for policies that prioritize the welfare of citizens.
“In conclusion, I call upon all citizens of Kaduna to remain vigilant and united in the face of this challenge.
“ Together, we can ensure that the promises made by NNPC translate into tangible benefits for all. Let us resist price hikes and demand accountability from our leaders”, the statement read.
It will be recalled that Fuel scarcity has hit parts of the State, with many filling stations seen under lock and key.
Also, it was observed that most filling stations Along Kachia Kaduna Expressway and other places were not dispensing the commodity.
Further investigation revealed that A litre of fuel is being sold at between N800 and N850 where available.
However, efforts to speak with some Independent oil marketers proved abortive as they refused to comment on the issue.
Some vehicle drivers and motorcycle riders expressed their dismay over the return of long queues at the filling stations.
“We were rejoicing that the long queues at filling stations had gone, but the problem is back”, said one of the motorists, Ibrahim Ahmed.
