The Managing Director of Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCOL) Mr. Oluropo Owolabi has disclosed that the company has put machineries in place to safeguard customers’ cargo at the airport terminals where SAHCOL offers services for both local and foreign carriers.
He said issues of pilferage of passengers’ baggage has risen in recent time prompting the ground handling firm to introduce what he called a zero tolerance on pilfering in its grounding operations at the terminals.
Owolabi, who conducted journalists round the company’s new warehouse at the cargo terminal of international wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, also attributed pilfering of luggage at the terminal to the malfunctioning of the conveyor belt at the cargo terminals.
He charged the appropriate authority to replace the aging belt and other facilities, to allow for smooth cargo operations affirming that 70 per cent of the current logjam been witnessed at the terminal will fade out once modern equipment are put in place.
He maintained that SAHCOL has deployed security equipment to strategic location to checkmate this menace and said that the company’s target is to turn the terminal into a cargo village.
“We will put every necessary equipment in place to make it easy for clearing agents to come in and move out with their cargo in a seamless way.
“It is important to note that the essence of building cargo warehouse is to make cargo operations easier for the passengers to collect their goods,” he said.
