Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue North-West Senatorial District, has distributed economic empowerment items to more than 900 constituents to promote entrepreneurship, job creation and self-reliance.
The items were distributed on Friday as part of the senator’s constituency development projects.
The beneficiaries received 180 motorcycles, 320 sewing machines, 300 grinding machines, 60 power hand tillers and 40 car-wash pumping machines.
Speaking at the event, Zam reaffirmed his commitment to economic empowerment, education, agriculture and infrastructure development across the senatorial district.
He highlighted previous interventions by his office, including scholarships for 350 indigent tertiary students, fertiliser distribution, support for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the construction of schools, clinics, roads, boreholes and other infrastructure.
The senator commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) and appreciated the commission’s leadership for supporting the empowerment programme.
He also thanked Senate President Godswill Akpabio for appointing him as the pioneer chairman of the Senate Committee on NCDC. He further acknowledged the support of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
The Chairman of the NCDC, Barrister Cosmas Akighir, said the commission remained committed to improving livelihoods through economic empowerment, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure development, agriculture, education, vocational training, and youth and women’s development.
Akighir urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the items and ensure that the benefits extended to their families and communities.
Former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Emmanuel Jime, commended Zam’s performance and expressed support for his re-election in 2027.
Jime said a second term would enable the senator to deploy the experience gained during his first tenure to provide more effective representation. He also urged the beneficiaries to mobilise support for Zam ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, a former three-term member of the House of Representatives, John Idyegh, expressed confidence in Zam’s re-election prospects, citing the anticipated support of political leaders and voters in Gboko and other parts of the senatorial district.
The speakers described the empowerment programme as an investment in economic independence, grassroots development and improved livelihoods. They also called for sustained political support for the senator ahead of the 2027 elections.
The latest intervention marks the sixth empowerment programme organised by Zam for his constituents.
