Senate has passed through second Reading ,the bill that seeks to reposition the Central Bank of Nigeria by creating an independent governing board for the apex bank and to also restrict the Governor of the Bank from contesting for any political office .
The amendment also seeks to create Six deputy Governors of the apex bank for the six geopolitical zones that will gather and submit informations on the peculiarity of the zones for implementation and bankers bank.
Sponsor of the bill ,Senator Nwokocha Darlington (Abia central ) explained that the need to reposition the bank became imperative because of “the rascality of the immediate past administration of the bank where the Governor even attempted to contest for the President of this country while still in office “
“ reposition the Central Bank and behaviour of the staff is of concern not just to us but to all Nigerians,because of the high rascality in administration of the CBN in the last administration of the bank”
He continued “That rascality has brought us to the point we are at the moment .
“There is therefore the need to continually carry out the amendments”
He pointed out the board of the CBN will be able to put the management of the bank in checks to rescue tendencies that will create credibility issues for the Bank .
He stated that the sort amendment will create improved control system ,restore public trust and confidence in the banking sector.
