Sen. Seriake Dickson

….as Senate orders probe

By Musa Baba Adamu

The Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has raised concerns over the lopsided appointments in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, (NNPC), the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), and other Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs).

Dickson made this known on the floor of the Senate yesterday.

His comments come as the Senate mandates its Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs to investigate the alleged abuse of employment practices in MDAs.

The resolution followed a Motion raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, who acknowledged the persistent challenges in achieving equity within Nigeria’s public service due to skewed appointments.

Speaking during plenary, Senator Dickson urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support the Senate’s efforts in addressing recruitment imbalances across federal MDAs.

“He is the leader and chief executive of the country; he should be told that this flagrant and widespread violation must stop. The National Assembly is taking action, and he should throw his weight behind it. When the report is ready, he should be given a copy so that we can ensure fairness for all.

“If you go to NNPC, it will shock you; even those of us from oil-producing states—our people are not there. You go to CBN, our people are not there,” he stated.
