The Kebbi state government has declared the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), politically irrelevant following the defection of its three serving senators to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, in a statement said the mass defection of Senators Adamu Aliero, Garba Maidoki, and Yahaya Abdullahi marks the final collapse of the opposition in the state, which he attributed to Governor Nasir Idris’s performance and leadership style since taking office in 2023.
“The party has been on life support for months. The exit of Senators Adamu Aliero, Garba Maidoki, and Yahaya Abdullahi is the final nail in the coffin. These were the party’s strongest pillars. With their defection, the PDP has nothing left to stand on in Kebbi State,” the statement read in part.
It was gathered that the recent wave of defections has triggered internal panic among remaining PDP stakeholders in Kebbi, some of whom now publicly admit that the party’s structure has collapsed beyond repair. In an interview with journalists, Adebayo stressed that Tinubu is politically astute enough to recognize that the coalition is not the real issue.
“He knows the people in the coalition. They are all friends. There’s hardly anybody in the coalition who you cannot find 10,000 pictures of them with the president. They are all together,” he said.
“The real thing that the president should worry about is the resentment of the people and the problems that people are facing in reality. It is not the coalition that has been putting pictures and billboards all over.”
Adebayo further criticized Tinubu for focusing too much on 2027 while neglecting the needs of the country.”
He blamed President Tinubu for focusing on 2027, abandoning governance and failure to give good governance to Nigeria. He noted, ‘If we are to be fair to the Tinubu government, we should talk about the Tinubu presidency, not the Tinubu administration, because there’s no administration going on.’”
He continued, “What you have is an imperial majesty in the presidency. Their eyes are not to the ground. Do not call them an administration. Just call them the presidency, because they took a note of office that you are not the president, and they created a group who are in the state house. Beyond that, they have not been able to create an administration.”
Adebayo also pointed out that neither of the two budgets presented by Tinubu’s government had successfully addressed the country’s issues.
“They have not been able to write a single good budget. They are reaching two budgets now and the only difference is that the one that came after is worse than the one before. They are not able to get a grip of anything. They are not doing well with employment. They need to know that the tool for dealing with poverty is employment.”
