The Surveyor General of the Federation, (SGOF) Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin, has urged aome youths under the umbrella of Young Surveyors Network (YSN) to learn all new technologies in surveying.
He said young surveyors in the country should brace up to the modern realities of the profession through constant acquisition of knowledge and training.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by Head , Information and Public Relations at OSGOF , Henry David .
It stated that Surv. Abuduganiyu stated this when the YSN, FCT branch came to his office on excursion in Abuja .
He also told them to learned how to use expert software, which is essential in surveying both in the country and aboard.
“Your client or employer already believes you have the requisite qualification to work”, he stated.
He disclosed that Nigerian Surveyors are creating waves abroad.
Adebomehin said to them “We have had three, four, five of our staff that are creating waves in the United States, some in Australia too but if you go there, it is not going to be time for anyone to start teaching you. It is time to put you on the line”.
Also speaking, the Head of Hydrography in Office of the Surveyor Generals Office , Surv Robert Coker advised the YSN not to only rely on what they are been thought in the university or polytechnic only but should also get themselves involved in the business side of surveying.
He adds: “You should always be thinking as business men and ever allow yourself to be underrated”.
Earlier, Chairman YSN , FCT branch , Surv. Izuegbu Uju, said “the visit is about capacity building and strengthening, mentoring to become successful to boost knowledge acquisition.
“We came visiting because the office of the surveyor general is in charge of mapping and surveying in Nigeria.
“ Also, the visit will help them assess the physical infrastructures of the office to build the capacity of young surveyors to prevent extinction of the profession and to also tap from the wealth of knowledge of the office”, she added.
