A member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council and Convener of The Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has called for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, arguing that Nigeria must sustain its current reform agenda to achieve prosperity.
Showunmi, in a statement titled “Nigeria Must Not Abandon Its Journey to Prosperity,” said the country was at a defining moment and needed continuity, sustained reforms and accelerated implementation of development policies.
He said his support for Tinubu’s second term was based on the belief that Nigeria must build on the foundation being laid by the current administration.
“My position is clear: I support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term because I believe Nigeria must keep moving forward,” he said.
Showunmi said the administration’s economic reforms were aimed at correcting longstanding distortions, strengthening public finances, attracting investment and creating jobs.
He identified education, electricity, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and public finance as key areas of the administration’s agenda, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the Electricity Act 2023 and road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway and Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway.
According to him, sustained implementation of these initiatives could help position Nigeria as a regional hub for manufacturing, agricultural processing and logistics, while reducing excessive dependence on crude oil.
Showunmi also called for policies that translate economic reforms into improved living standards, particularly for farmers, traders, artisans, graduates and entrepreneurs.
He stressed the need to expand access to quality education, vocational training, digital skills and finance to enable young Nigerians to contribute to national development.
On Nigeria’s global standing, he said the country’s population, natural resources and entrepreneurial capacity offered significant opportunities to attract investment and expand production.
Showunmi argued that the 2027 election should provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms and advance the administration’s development agenda.
“The case for President Tinubu in 2027 is a case for continuity, accelerated implementation and consolidation of reforms,” he said, urging Nigerians to support the President for a second term.
