As part of efforts to address the alarming rate of global unemployment, the National Directorate of Employment NDE in collaboration with other stakeholders have trained over 10,000 women and youths in various skills acquisition programmes.
Dr. Nasir Ladan Argungu, the Director General of NDE disclosed this on Wednesday at the launching of an NDE empowerment programme for 220 persons in Katsina.
Argungu represented by Engineer Yakubu Umar Mani, a director in the NDE said the programme which ran through the last quarter of 2018 is expected to be sustained on a continuous basis.
He added that, 1,500 persons are to be trained in various skills, 3,000 women empowered in cosmetology and beauty therapy.
Similarly he maintained that, 700 persons would be empowered under the NDE Micro Empowerment Enhancement Scheme MEES, while 5,000 persons are to access the CBN agro Business Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Scheme AGSMEIS.
He however commended Governor Masari for his support to NDE towards implementing it’s programmes and schemes, as well as the developmental projects of the administration that had promoted growth and transformation of the state.
Argungu therefore urged the beneficiaries to exploit the opportunity for self reliance and wealth creation as we match to the next level.
Abdulkarim Sirika, the state NDE Coordinator, earlier, said the beneficiaries were drawn from nine of the 34 local government areas of the state.
He said they include local tea, beans cake and groundnut cake traders.
