Sokoto students commend Wamakko for refund N300m as scholarship fees

Indigenous students from Sokoto state have commended the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko for refunded the registration fees and allowances of over 7,000 to the tune of N300 million.

The students under the auspices of Sokoto state Students’ Association and the Federated Organizations of Sokoto state Students Associations said the gesture had greatly helped in alleviating their problems.

A spokesman of the students, Bello Abdul-Aziz told newsmen in Sokoto, that the gesture had also encouraged them to face their studies squarely.

He said over 7,000 indigenes of the state studying in various tertiary institutions across the country were refunded their registration fees and allowances.

“The students are currently studying in Bayero University, Kano; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Federal University of Technology, Minna; special schools and the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, among others”.

He explained that the governor’s gesture had helped in motivating the beneficiaries to be focused and diligent in their studies.

“Most of us are indigent and it is too difficult for us to study without such financial support from the state government.

“The gesture had really motivated us to be diligent and focused on our studies, with a view to justifying the tremendous confidence reposed in us by our parents, the state government and the people of the state,” he added.

The President warned his colleagues in all acts capable of jeopardising their studies, which include examinations malpractice and cultism, among others.

Abdul-Aziz further promised that the students will continue to be law abiding and disciplined, even as he vowed that, they will continue to be good ambassadors of their respective families and the state.

He further warned the students against involving themselves in politics, saying that, such obnoxious act is inimical to their studies and democracy generally.
