The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has expressed deep concern over recent resurgence of attacks in various parts of Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State.
The organization warned that the fragile peace under the administration of Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Tinubu is being threatened by a resurgence of violence.
In a statement signed by Engr. Tabara Samuel Kato, the National President of SOKAPU, the organization lamented the killing of 14 people and kidnapping of 30 others between October 23 and 31, 2025, in communities such as Ungwar Rimi, Chawai, Kamaru, Wikeh, Gadanaji, Awon, Kabara, Rumaya, Farin Dutse, Damakasuwa, and Tsam are disturbing.
The statement suggested that influential individuals who own cattle and are exploiting the situation for political or economic gains are behind these attacks.
“The so-called farmers-herders clashes are orchestrated crises instigated by elite cattle owners who use these conflicts for political or economic advantage,” Kato stated.
SOKAPU commended the efforts of Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu in enhancing security but urged them to take further action to address the issue. The organization called on the Federal Government and Kaduna State Government to identify and prosecute those responsible for the renewed hostilities and to enforce the “shoot-at-sight” order issued by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. C.G. Musa (Rtd.).
The union also appealed to the Kaduna State government to provide relief to affected communities, facilitate the release of kidnapped individuals, and take measures to prevent an impending food shortage.
Kato emphasized that farmers and herders have a traditional partnership rooted in trade, and that the current clashes are not a result of natural conflicts but rather deliberate acts of provocation.
