In a bid to boost the country’s economy, stakeholders in the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development yesterday evaluated the provisions of the 2007 Mineral and Mining Act and 2011 regulations.
Speaking at an interactive forum, organised by his office, in collaboration with Mines Inspectorate Department of the ministry, yesterday in Abuja, the Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office
(MCO), Mohammed Amate, disclosed that the gathering was necessary to examine the operations and implementation of various regulations.
“It is against this backdrop that we are all here to spend the rest of the day looking at those impediments/ potholes along the road as we move towards the realisation of the vision 202020 in solid Mineral and the Mining sector in Nigeria,” Amate said.
He also urged on participants to make meaningful, critical observations and constructive criticisms for the ministry to achieve its objective of “getting it right”.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dauda Kigbu, said the meeting was apt in view of the on-going Federal government’s implementation of the mineral sub-sector roadmap.
He stressed the need for synergy and sustained effort by stakeholders towards achieving target on revenue generation and collection, adding: “it will facilitate timely renewal of mineral titles.”
