Authorities of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB) may have taken steps to instill well deserved discipline into the activities of its teachers, especially those who have been indulged in absenteeism, sundry offences, as thirty six teachers in the schools visited by officials of the Board that caught absent from their schools, were sanctioned..
While issuing stern warning to others who were yet to be caught in the web of the increasing absenteeism among teachers across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Chief Sunny Ogwu said that SUBEB would not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary measures against further erring teachers, adding that the erring teachers who were adequately sanctioned, are to remain in their houses for three months without salaries.
Chief Ogwu said that the Board will not entertain any act capable of truncating the educational legacies of the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, adding that team of the Board Inspectors visited various primary schools in the state, among them are; Abuedo Primary School in Ubulu Uku, and many others in Ogwashi Uku, Ibusa , Ebiteh Primary School, lamenting that the rate of vandalism of classrooms was becoming too on the increasing.
He therefore called on the Community/ Parents/ Teachers Association to rise up to the occasion by assisting government in protecting the school against vandals.
Ogwu, however, said that the monitoring exercise would continue as he reminded all the teachers to be in attendance during the mandatory morning assemblies.
He charged the head teachers to issue query to any teacher who failed to attend assembly with the pupils.
