The Yobe State government began the distribution of palliatives, and food items which aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday, during the commencement of the distribution of palliatives to 3,000 students, widows, households, and vulnerable in Damaturu, the state capital of Yobe.
Buni, who was represented by his deputy Hon Idi Barde Gubana, said the intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was rolled out to cushion the hardship being faced as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy in the country.
He said the donation has come at a time when the state government is putting the necessary machinery in place for the same purpose across the 17 Local Government areas of the state.
According to him, “the support will touch vulnerable persons, civil servants, students, widows, security personnel, the elderly, and women with no segment of people being shortchanged in the exercise.”
He also warned the beneficiaries to avoid selling the food items given to them by President Tinubu, tasking them to use them judiciously to tackle hunger and malnutrition.
‘‘If you are able can get these items kindly put them in your store and feed your children, your husbands, and your in-laws, don’t be misguided to say you will sell them. We have put the agencies in place to monitor and make an arrest for anybody who is planning to sell this palliative,” he said
