The United States military has announced the successful enforcement of a naval blockade against Iran, effectively halting maritime trade to and from the country.
Commander of the U.S. Central Command, Brad Cooper, disclosed in a post on X late Tuesday that the blockade of Iranian ports had been fully implemented.
He stated that U.S. forces maintained maritime dominance in the Middle East and, within 36 hours of initiating the operation, had brought seaborne trade involving Iran to a complete standstill.
In a separate statement, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that Navy guided-missile destroyers were deployed as part of the operation. The command noted that the blockade is being enforced impartially on vessels of all nations entering or leaving Iranian coastal areas and ports.
The development follows an earlier announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad ended without agreement over the weekend.
According to U.S. officials, the blockade is intended to prevent Iran from generating revenue through transit fees in the strategic waterway and to significantly reduce its oil export earnings.
