UPP raises adhoc c’ttee to execute party victory strategy in 2015

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the United Progressives Party (UPP) has mandated the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to set up adhoc committees to that would execute the party’s programmes and activities to ensure victory for the party in the 2015 general elections.

A communique signed by National Chairman of the party, Chekwas Okorie, said this was part of the resolutions arrived at during the NEC meeting of the party held in Abuja.

According to the communique, other resolutions arrived at after the NEC meeting was that only eligible candidates who have fulfilled the minimum condition contained in the party’s guidelines for the general elections shall be sponsored by the Party to fly the party’s flag at the elections.

UPP however made exceptions for female aspirants who are not required to pay nomination fees in line with the party policy on gender issues as contained in the UPP manifesto.

The NEC also expressed satisfaction with the report of all the party state chairmen in the 36 States of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory on the preparation of the various State chapters of the party for the forthcoming 2015 general elections.

“The National Executive Committee acknowledged with satisfaction the commendable level of unity, internal democracy and discipline that the party has exhibited at all levels. We intend to nurture and sustain these attributes”, the communique reads in party.

The party therefore charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do all that is necessary to ensure that the 2015 general election is free, fair, credible and transparent, even as it promised to keep cooperating with the commission at all times.

While urging all print and broadcast media organisations to grant all participating parties and their candidates equal coverage in air time and space in order to assist in ensuring a level-playing field, the UPP NEC also advised President Goodluck Jonathan to encourage and direct Security Agencies, especially the Nigeria Police, to exhibit high level of discipline, civility, non-partisanship and even-handed in all its activities before, during and after the elections.
