Stories from Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Deputy Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Kaduna Electric, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, has described vandalism of power supply infrastructure, sabotage, and bill payment default as the greatest threats confronting the Nigerian electricity supply industry.
Mohammed made the assertion recently when he granted an audience to the leadership of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers(NIEEE), Kaduna State chapter.
He noted that even though there have been significant improvements in the commercial performance of the sector in the last decade, the recent resurgence of vandalism and wilful destruction of power supply infrastructure by some undesirable elements is posing a serious threat to the Nigerian electricity supply industry.
Also, the Kaduna Electric COO called on the members of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with all players in the sector and other critical Stakeholders in nipping the menace in the bud.
“The current threats of vandalism and wilful destruction of critical national assets by saboteurs must be frontally confronted by all Nigerians.
“Therefore, the role of NIEEE members and that of other Stakeholders in this regard cannot be over-emphasized; we must collectively work together to stamp out this menace”, he stated.
He also assured the NIEEE leadership of more robust engagement and stronger collaboration while pledging the company’s unwavering commitment to standard practices and safe delivery of electricity services to its customers.
Earlier, the Chairman of NIEEE, Kaduna State chapter, Engineer Iliyasu Garba Jibia disclosed that they were at Kaduna Electric to explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership as well as membership drive.
He pledged the resolve of the Electrical and Electronic Engineers to be advocates for standard practices.
He therefore solicited the assistance of the Management of Kaduna Electric towards the annual Engineering Groups Dynamics Competition as well as the NIEEE end of year activities scheduled for next month.
The high points of the visit were a knowledge-sharing session and safety rehearsal.
