WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria has formalized a new phase in its relationship with its host community, Onne in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) aimed at deepening collaboration and promoting sustainable development.

The agreement, announced on Wednesday, underscores the terminal operator’s commitment to inclusive growth and long-term community partnerships.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Managing Director of WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, Jeethu Jose, emphasized the significance of the deal:

“The MoA establishes a structured framework for collaboration on key initiatives, ensuring that the needs of the communities are addressed as agreed.”

Also present at the event, Community Relations Manager Justin Okwuofu described the agreement as a product of participatory development, noting that the process began in 2022 with a capacity-building workshop for selected community members.

“The goal was to empower the community to fully understand and contribute to the development of this agreement,” he said, urging residents to continue supporting future initiatives.

Chairman of the Onne Community Development Committee, Sunday Dudu, hailed the agreement as a historic milestone.

“Today is a landmark moment for Onne. This is the first time such a structured and inclusive agreement has been reached with any investor in our community. It gives us a working document to guide future development,” he said.

The signing of the MoA represents a significant step forward in institutionalizing accountability and mutual respect between WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria and the Onne host community, and is expected to serve as a model for similar partnerships in the region.
