Groups unveil ‘Women for Women’ campaign ahead of 2027 elections

As political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections gain momentum, women’s advocacy groups across Nigeria have stepped up calls for increased support for female candidates who emerged victorious in their respective party primaries.
The leaders emphasize that unity among Nigerian women is key to boosting female representation and strengthening inclusive governance.
National President of the Women’s Wing of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, spoke to journalists during an interview in Kaduna.
She congratulated all women who secured their parties’ tickets and urged women to rise above political, ethnic, and religious differences by supporting female candidates across all political parties.
According to her, increasing the number of women in elective positions remains vital to democracy and national development.
Hajiya Ramatu noted that several African countries and other nations have successfully elected women into top leadership positions, including the presidency, and stated that Nigeria should not be left behind.
She highlighted that women make up a significant percentage of the population and voting power. If they unite and support each other, more female candidates will win and contribute meaningfully to national growth.
She also encouraged women to turn out in large numbers to vote for qualified female candidates, citing their proven commitment, dedication, and integrity in public service.
To advance this effort, Hajiya Ramatu revealed her organization is working to launch a campaign titled ‘Women for Women’ aimed at mobilizing support, resources, and advocacy for female candidates who won their party primaries, to help them compete effectively in 2027.
She added that greater female representation would promote girl-child education, fight poverty, reduce unemployment, and address social challenges affecting women and vulnerable groups.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, Hajiya Rabi Saulawa, expressed concern about the relatively low number of women who secured victories in the recently concluded party primaries and called for solidarity to achieve meaningful political representation.
Similarly, Hajiya Hafsat Baba of the Kaduna State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development announced plans to organize capacity-building programs for female candidates, especially those contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), through training and mentorship in communication, leadership, and campaign skills.
The women leaders unanimously called for increased inclusion of women in Nigeria’s political process, stressing that empowering women politically remains key to sustainable development, social justice, and national progress.
