Yola Court convicts local wrestler to death by hanging

A High Court sitting in Yola, has convicted a famous local wrestler,Thank you Grims, to death by hanging, for murdering his wife, late Mrs Kwalla Grims.

The trial Judge, Justice Nathan Musa, held that the prosecution was able to proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict has actually killed the deceased with his bear hands.

According to the judge, who doubles as Chief Judge of the state, the offence is a culpable homicide which contravene the provision of Section 192 (B) of the Adamawa State Penal Code Law 2018, and attracts death sentence without any option.

‘’The wrestler has been found to be guilty as charged beyond any reasonable doubt as provided by the laws of the land.’’ the court held.

“The convict is convicted for culpable homicide punishable with death.My hands are therefore tied.I can’t do otherwise thus ; the convict is accordingly sentenced to death by hanging as provided by Section 192 (B) of the Penal Code”.Justice Musa announced

Mr. Grims has been an outstanding local wrestler cherished by the locals due to his formidable performance at wrestling competitions in Guyuk local government Area of Adamawa state.

Reports from the area indicated that the convict and the deceased have parted ways due to unresolved matrimonial differences since 10th January,2018 until she approached him for divorce letter so that she can marry her new found love.

The convict then asked for a meeting with her at their home to discuss her request where he pleaded with her to return to him as wife but she declined then he got infuriated by her refusal leading to him assaulting her physical to a stage of coma a with pestle up to her death on the 24th March,2018.

Reacting to the judgement, Counsel to the prosecution, Barrister Salihu Muhammad, described it as “a sound and erudite judgement “

Also reacting, counsel to the convict, Barrister F.A.Ogbe, said it was a well considered judgement.
