The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has called on governments at all levels and the private sector to collaborate in creating jobs for the growing number of youths in the country as a means of reducing poverty.
The council said that the federal government initiatives, such as SURE-P, YouWin, Agricultural Transformation Agenda amongst others, have empowered a significant proportion of the population, but maintained that it was proper for other arms of government to key into it, so as to complement the federal government.
The youth council, in a communiqué issued at the end of its National Executive Council in Yenegoa, Bayelsa state and signed by the President, Com. Yakubu Shendam, said the youth body frowned at the
situation where some sectors of the economy blame each other for not creating jobs.
He stressed that nation building was a collective endeavour, declaring that the unity of the nation was not negotiable and implored the teaming youths to rally round the federal government in its bid to
transform Nigerian and shun violence.
The communiqué amongst other things, commended the government’s efforts in fighting insurgency and the convocation of the National Conference for thorny issues to be addressed.
“We implore the President to, as usual, give his best in ensuring the forward match of the nation”.
