The Zamfara state government has selected 700 people from each of the fourteen local government councils of the state making 9,800 suffering various eye cases for free medical treatments, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello DanKande Gamji has said.
According to the Commissioner, the programme was initiated by the state government with a view to assist in fighting eye problems that remained common among the teeming populace across the fourteen local government councils of the state for decades and could not afford medical charges by hospitals in the state.
He said that, the exercise has already succeeded in treating 2,800 beneficiaries with various eye cases from the piloting central zone comprising Tsafe, Gusau, Maru and Bungudu local government councils.
He further informed that, the state government has engaged a refutable eye caring professionals to embark on the exercise at Eye care Center in King Fahad hospital Gusau, Vision Saver Eyecare limited attending to the beneficiaries throughout the state.
“100 patients out of each 700 been selected from each of the 14 local governments would undergo surgical operations while 600 would be provided with medical glasses and drugs” he added.
Also speaking, the Project Director, Dr. Kamal Umar, has commended the state government and the state ministry of health for their most needed support towards the achievements so far of the first phase of the exercise.
