Expert urges African leaders to map out ways of tackling poverty

African leaders have been tasked to map out ways to tackle persistent poverty and fragility in the continent.
This was contained in a statement by Acting Executive Director of ANEEJ, Leo Atakpu, which was made available to the media in Kaduna, yesterday.
The statement explained that Mr Atakpu, who spoke during the ongoing African CSOs Conference on Financing for Development, held at the Nairobi Safari Club Hotel, Kenya called on participants to come up with ideas that can strengthen domestic resource mobilisation, unlock private sector investment and ensure effective international development cooperation.
According to the statement, he urged the participants to explore ways to hold developed nations accountable for their Financing commitments and advocate for a fairer global financial architecture.
Atakpu also urged participants to come together to find new solutions that are people-centred and sustainable.
“I call on NGOs to unlock private sector investment and ensure effective international development.”
“The private sector is critically important to create jobs and improve the livelihoods of people throughout the continent.”
“It harnesses a range of instruments, including public-private partnerships (PPPs), multi-donor facilities, and capital investment pipelines to drive development by tapping into the region’s local capital.
“The private sector has a critical role to play in the development of infrastructure—which in turn improves the enabling environment for business, creating a virtuous cycle”, he stated.
