Katsina APC vows to stop state LG election

Date:

From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina

Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC) Katsina State Chapter, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa has vowed to drag the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, KTSIEC, to court with a view to stopping the conduct of the forthcoming local government election in the state.

Inuwa, who stated this recently in Malumfashi, noted that taking a legal action against the electoral body became necessary due to its alleged non conformity to  the relevant electoral laws.

According to him, the commission failed to respect the stipulated 90 days notice before the conduct of an election; failed to perform the revalidation of the voter register; raising minimum qualifications for contestants and charged potential candidates exorbitant fees.

On the issue of minimum qualifications, Inuwa noted that the commission had arbitrarily raised it to 10 year working experience for those with primary school certificate and five year working experience for secondary school leavers.

The chairman stressed that APC was confident of winning election any time in Katsina, since the people were tired of the way government in the state was running the local councils under sole administrators.

Similarly, Inuwa advised his party’s supporters to remain calm as according to him “our party will do all within its powers to make sure the electoral rules were strictly respected”.

He also praised the initiative of Senator Abu Ibrahim from the southern part of the state for distributing equipments and materials to over 234 mosques from across the 11 local government of the zone.
