Niger State House of Assembly has approved the request of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for a N70 billion bond issuance to finance infrastructure projects in the state.
A statement issued by the assembly Acting Media and Public Relations, Mairo Adamu Mani, said the approval followed the presentation of the report of the House Standing Committee on Finance by its Chairman, Aliyu Sheshi Wushishi, representing Wushishi Constituency.
According to him, the committee’s thorough review and interface with stakeholders revealed that the request was part of a planned N100 billion NCNI Private Bond Issuance for 10 years.
The House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation and approved the request of the governor.
However, the Niger State opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP has kicked against any further borrowing in whatsoever guise in Niger State.
The State Vice Chairman and Zonal Chairman of PDP Niger North, Yahaya Abdullahi Ability in a statement issued to newsmen in Minna, rejected the decision of consistent borrowing including N70 billion bond issuance as approved by the Niger state House of Assembly.
