Super Eagles beat Tanzania in AFCON opener

Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2-1 in Group C opener.

Super Eagles opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Semi Ajayi rose highest to head home from a pinpoint Alex Iwobi cross, rewarding Nigeria’s sustained pressure.

Tanzania briefly drew level in the 49th minute through M’Mbombiwa, scoring against the run of play.

Nigeria responded almost immediately. In the 52nd minute, Alex Iwobi provided his second assist of the night, setting up Ademola Lookman who calmly finished with a wonderful strike to restore Nigeria’s lead.

Nigeria controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and created the better chances from start to finish, comfortably seeing out the game to claim all three points and go top of Group C.
