The Senate on Wednesday resumed plenary, setting the stage for the consideration of critical legislative business, including key bills, committee reports, and the screening and confirmation of appointments.

Among the top items on the order paper was the presentation and consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary) on the Federal Medical Centres Act (Amendment) Bill.

The upper chamber also commenced the screening and confirmation process for ministerial nominees, Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, for appointment as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In addition, the Senate considered the report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the confirmation of the appointment of Professor Francis Ifeanyi Asogwah as Commissioner of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC).

Similarly, the report of the Joint Committees on Sports Development and Drug Control/Narcotics on the confirmation of Mr. Mainasara Umaru Illo as Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC) was listed for consideration.

On the legislative front, the Senate also deliberated on bills for concurrence, including the Federal Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill and the Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria Bill.

Meanwhile, a motion highlighting the urgent need to revive the textile industry, with particular reference to the Kaduna-Kano axis, was slated for debate during the session.

The resumption of plenary marks a continuation of the Senate’s legislative activities aimed at strengthening governance frameworks and addressing key national development concerns.
