Nigerian lawmakers have called for decisive diplomatic and economic actions against South Africa following renewed incidents of xenophobic violence targeting foreign nationals, including Nigerians.
The House of Representatives urged the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage South African authorities and demand stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of Nigerians and other African nationals residing in the country.
During plenary, lawmakers expressed concern over the recurring attacks, describing them as a threat to regional unity and the ideals of African solidarity.
They warned that failure to address the situation could further strain relations between both countries.
As part of its recommendations, the House proposed the suspension of diplomatic relations, trade partnerships, and bilateral aviation agreements with South Africa.
