Wives and children of some detained military officers, allegedly accused of involvement in a coup plot, have appealed to the Federal Government and military authorities to ensure a fair, open and transparent trial process.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the spokesperson for the group, Hajia Aisha Yusuf, said they remain law-abiding citizens and are calling for justice to be served based on credible and verifiable evidence.
She urged authorities to open court proceedings to the public, the media, and international human rights observers, while also allowing independent medical experts to assess the condition of their detained relatives.
Another member of the group, Aisha Usman, expressed concern over the treatment of the detainees, stressing that they are entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.
She described the emotional toll on families, saying many are struggling with separation and uncertainty.
Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, also called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure due process is strictly followed, urging authorities to respect the rule of law and the rights of the accused pending the outcome of investigations and trial.
