A hospitality company, Mouna Apartment Ltd, has cried out for help over the demolition of structures on its property located in Idu Industrial District, Abuja, despite an interim court order stopping the demolition.

The structures, including warehouse and fence were erected on plot number 1426 and 633, Cadastral Zone C16, Idu.

It was gathered that the structure was destroyed by officials of the Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Council, on Wednesday.

Mr Rabiu Sherif, an administrative officer in the company, told NAN that the structures were demolished despite an interim injunction restraining the officials from demolishing or removing any material from the land, which is a subject of dispute before a court.

Sherif said that the plots were acquired by the company from La’don Hotels Ltd in 2012, adding that the initial purpose was for parks and recreation.

He explained that the company acquired the land legally with relevant documents to prove ownership, but on May 14, 2025, it received a demolition notice on the pretext that the properties have been reallocated to another company, prompting them to approach the court.

“As you can see, there are three adjoining plots that are affected. I would like to state clearly that from the onset, we are not occupying this place illegally, we have our documents.

“Also, the matter regarding this land is currently in court as we speak and our lawyers will do the needful through legal means to seek justice.

“We have appealed for time to enable us to evacuate our valuables in the property but as you can see, they are bringing down the fences and the adjoining property, including the structures opposite us,” he said.

When contacted, Mr Richard Chukwuemeka, Assistant Director in the Department of Development Control, who led the demolition exercise declined comment, saying “Sorry, I am not authorised to speak to journalists on this matter”.
