FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered the immediate demolition of unauthorised beer parlours in the Asokoro area of Abuja over security concerns.
Wike gave the directive on Friday after a security meeting with the FCT Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services in Abuja, directing the Department of Development Control and security agencies to clear the affected locations.
The minister said the decision followed security intelligence about the activities of individuals seeking to establish the businesses without approval.
“We have been told of some security threats originating from somewhere leading towards Asokoro, where some individuals are attempting to establish unauthorised beer parlour businesses.
“We will not allow that. There is no such approval, and we will not permit it,” he said.
Wike said the FCT Administration would take preventive measures to address potential security risks before they escalated.
He directed the Department of Development Control to work with security agencies to enforce the order.
“We have directed Development Control, in conjunction with security agencies, to go and chase them away before we begin to have security problems. We will not allow that at all,” the minister added.
Wike said the public announcement was intended to inform residents of the administration’s position on unauthorised businesses and its commitment to maintaining law and order in the nation’s capital.
The directive comes amid the FCT Administration’s efforts to address security concerns in Abuja.
